Descriptive Writing

In Te Ngahere  (our class) we have been learning about te Ngahere (the bush).  We had to write a piece of descriptive writing called a moment in time. We had to describe a picture of te Ngahere. My writing is only a draft so I will blog post the final copy in the future. The thing I think I did well was putting all of the descriptive language in. The thing I could do better next time is finish it more quickly.

Here is my writing.

A moment in time.

Ferns waving in the wind, and an old Rimu tree taking its last breath. The wind echoing through the mountains. Fantails hoping to each tree branch like a frog trying to catch a fly. Kiwis clocking in their burrows waiting for the night sky to awaken.

Explanation

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to write a explanation about a healthy ecosystems. In our writing we had to explain what a producer, consumer and decomposer, dose is and eat’s. We also said what the balance of an ecosystem was and what would happen if it became unbalanced.

Here is my explanation.

What Makes A Healthy Ecosystem?

An ecosystem is made up of organic and in-organic matter (living and non-living things), a healthy ecosystem needs producers, decomposers and consumers. If an ecosystem gets tampered with it will break and there will be a consequence.

A Producer is a plant, a Producer gets the energy from the sunlight, and when the consumer eats them they get the energy. Producers make their own food by air water and sunlight, that cycle is called photosynthesis.

A Consumer eats the producers which is plants like kelp, trees and sometimes they eat other consumers to survive. A consumer's role in the ecosystem is to eat producers so they don’t get out of control.

A Decomposer is a scavengers that break down dead plants and animals. Decomposers are also bacteria.

An ecosystem is really fragile, so if one ecosystem is unbalanced like we take all the food there will be a consequence. If we eat all the kina the crayfish will die, then the carpet sharks will die, then other sharks will die, and there will be too much kelp in the ocean. So thats what will happen if an ecosystem becomes unbalanced.
